Summary
After a relatively positive pre-season from the Turbos no one expected what would eventually transpire in Christchurch in the opening round. Written off by everyone but themselves and their fans the Turbos travelled to Christchurch and beat reigning champions Canterbury.
The David vs. goliath victory shocked the country as Turbos ran out 25-24 winners in what would come to be known as the ambush.
Another long season followed as the Turbos struggled to re-capture the form that saw them topple provincial juggernauts Canterbury. Despite going close on many occasions the team only managed to add a bizarre 38-38 draw against Waikato to their point tally.
Josh Bradnock and Francis Bryant both won their 50th cap with the side and the Turbos also welcomed a young Aaron Cruden into the squad.
