Waitokia ruled out for Bay of Plenty clash

A neck injury has seen wing Te Rangatira Waitokia ruled out of the Turbos match against Bay of Plenty in Rotorua on Thursday.

Sam Malcolm has been called into the starting XV at fullback with Junior Laloifi shifting to the left wing and Michael Tagicakibau pushing across to the right wing.

Waitokia picked up the injury after a collision with Ben Lam during the side’s loss to Wellington on Sunday.

Assistant coach Aaron Good said the call was made on Wednesday to pull Waitokia out of the match due to the inju4ry.

He said a combination of Malcolm’s form and goalkicking ability along with James Tofa’s utility value bringing flexibility to the bench were the key reasons for the reshuffle in the back three.

Malcolm, while predominantly a first five-eighth, is comfortable at fullback having spent much of his time in with West Harbour in Australia’s Shute Shield in the No 15 jersey this year.
