Turbos add Wyrill and Cairns

A new flanker and hooker have been added to the Turbos to bolster their stocks.

Taranaki flanker Adrian Wyrill, who scored a try against Manawatu last year, has been added to the squad for the remainder of the season on loan covering the injured Jackson Iose.

Old Boys-Marist hooker Chris Cairns comes into the team on a week-by-week deal to cover the injured Sam Stewart.

The former Feilding High School hooker trialled for the New Zealand Under 20s last year.

While not overly big for a front row forward, Cairns has impressed with his accuracy at set piece and ability to get go-forward on attack.

He is the third hooker in the squad joining Stewart and Tim Cadwallader.

Wyrill, 26, provides some much-needed depth to the loose forward stocks after Iose was ruled out for the season with a knee injury.

He had played 15 games for Taranaki heading into the season and was originaly named in the Taranaki squad but with plenty of depth, they allowed him to make the shift to the Turbos.

The Turbos have had a tough with injuries in the loose forwards with brothers Brayden and Jackson Iose out for the season and Sam Wasley still battling his way back from a knee injury.

Wyrill is a specialist openside flanker but is comfortable in all three loose forward positions.

Both players will be available for the Turbos next match against Northland in Whangarei on Friday.
