Laumape back for Turbos

Ngani Laumape will paly his first game of the season for the Manawatu Turbos against Northland on Thursday night at Central Energy Trust Arena.

The All Blacks midfielder, who was a surprise omission from the World Cup squad, had last weekend off to rest, but will be back in his regular No 12 jersey to face the Taniaha.

It will be a special match for the man inside him with Otere Black set to notch his 50th game in green and white.

Black debuted for the Turbos in 2014 and has had an iron-grip on the No 10 jersey ever since.

The match will also mark the first start in a Turbos jersey in 10 years for Andre Taylor, who returned from a groin injury last weekend off the bench against Otago.

Taylor replaces Drew Wild on the right wing, while Laumape starts at second five-eighth in place of James Tofa.

Tofa is bracketed on the bench but may not be required if Rob Thompson can clear his troublesome calf strain.

In the forward pack, Johnny Galloway returns at openside flanker allowing Nick Crosswell to return to the blindside and Liam Mitchell to lock where he replaces Jackson Hemopo, who is out for the season with his shoulder injury.

Brayden Iose gets another crack at the No 8 jersey with Sione Tu’ipulotu on the bench.

Fraser Stone replaces Tom Hughes in the second row, while Sam Stewart takes the place of Nick Grogan.

On the bench, Te Rangatira Waitokia returns from injury to take his place on the bench.
