A young Turbos side have been put to the sword by the Tasman Mako in their third round of Mitre 10 Cup.
The Mako, stacked with Super Rugby players and led by All Black Liam Squire, were relentless as they picked apart the Turbos defence for a commanding 64-3 win.
The injury-ravaged Turbos buckled as the Tasman’s wave-after-wave of attacking weapons bombarded their defensive line.
The first 20 minutes were as good as it got for Turbos fans with the side trailing 7-3 thanks to a penalty from Otere Black.
But Tasman stormed on for the comprehensive win.
The shining light for Manawatu was the performances of captain Jamie Booth and some impressive defence from 19-year-old fullback Drew Wild.
There was also some good impact off the bench from debutant first five-eighth Stewart Cruden and powerful prop Sione Asi.
The Turbos’ next game is a Ranfurly Shield challenge against Otago in Dunedin on August 30.
