The Wellington Lions took a decisive 49-7 win over the Manawatu Turbos in Palmerston North on Sunday.
Wellington scored nine tries as they picked up the bonus point win. Manawatu struggled to fire a shot against their fired up opposition.
Wellington scored early through Thomas Waldrom and the points kept flowing. Mateaki Kafatolu, Thomas Umaga-Jensen, Ben Lam and James Blackwell all bagged first half tries.
The only thing keeping Manawatu in the game was Wellington failing to kick any first half conversions.
It was a better effort from Manawatu in the second half led by replacementr loose forward Brice Henderson.
Debutant wing Ben Werthmuller was another of the few to shine as was Hamish Northcott in his 50th match.
Asafo Aumua, Isaia Walker-Leawere, Peter Umaga-Jensen and Lam second second half tries for Wellington.
Henderson scored Manawatu's sole try when he crossed from the back of the maul.
