Post Match Report
The Manawatu Turbos were unable to grind out the win in appalling conditions against Taranaki, falling 13-10 on Saturday.
Heavy rain and a bitterly cold wind retricted the match to 10-man rugby for much of the second half, with Taranaki's sole penalty being the difference on the day. The scroes had been locked at 10-10 at the break. Taranaki drew first blood when they were awarded a penalty try from a maul in the 11th minute.
But Manawatu fought back well. First Hamish Northcott set up Ben Werthmuller with a perfectly weighted kick, then captain Jamie Booth seized on a chance on the blindside to grab the side's second. With the weather settling in after that, any sort of running rugby was out the door.
The likes of Nick Grogan, Nick Crosswell and James Tofa were the best in the wet conditions, Samu Tawake and Adam Boult also had some nice touches.
The Turbos now have seven days to re-group before they take on Tasman on August 24.
